MAY MEETING CANCELLATION NOTICE

Unfortunately we have been forced to cancel our meeting this Saturday due to caution regarding the corona virus pandemic which has resulted in prohibition of gatherings and meetings, particularly in County buildings. We will let you know how it looks for the June meeting in the weeks prior to the current meeting date, Saturday June 6.

In the meantime, the FAA is rolling back the staffing hours at 100 airports nationwide, including KSEE. The times are not confirmed yet – apparently there is some disagreement about when the Tower should open – whether it be 7am or 9am, but it looks as though “quitting time” will be 5pm either way.

Here is the latest as of this afternoon from KSEE Airport Manager Cathe Johnson:

I am reaching out to notify you of a temporary change the FAA is making to Gillespie Field Air Traffic Control (ATC) operating hours.   In these rapidly changing times of COVID-19, we will continue to keep you apprised of any major changes.   The FAA will temporarily adjust the operating hours of approximately 100 control towers nationwide.  Information regarding the decision making process and adjustment of ATC operating hours may be found on the following link: https://www.faa.gov/news/updates/?newsId=94991

Gillespie Field Airport (KSEE) Control Tower was identified as one of the selected candidates for these FAA adjustments.   On May 4th, 2020 ATC operating hours for KSEE will change from 7:00am – 9:00pm daily, the revised times are still under consideration by the FAA – please check NOTAMs for the new time once it has been approved by the FAA.  The current times under discussion are either 9:00am – 5:00pm daily or 7:00am – 5:00pm daily.  The FAA will continue to monitor airport operation counts, making future adjustments as appropriate.  As always, please check NOTAMsbefore you fly for the latest status of airport and airspace conditions.

If you have any questions regarding the temporary change in operating hours, the best way to contact me currently is via email: cathe.johnson@sdcounty.ca.gov

Wishing you all the best,

 Cathe Johnson

Airport Manager
